Burn One With Reefa

Reefa was born in Houston, Texas and began rapping after his brother dropped a slew of mixtapes. That inspiration has taken Reefa down an intriguing road and he now finds himself on the verge of stardom. Based in The Big D, Reefa and his label Talk Loud Ent, are gearing up to drop their debut album Welcome to the Takeover, Otherwise the Fallout. With the hard sounding anthem Haters already in full rotation, it’s only a matter of time before Reefa becomes a house hold name. Check out the interview after the jump.

Jason
Where did you grow up?

Reefa
I grew up in Houston, Texas.

Jason
Cool. How did you begin rapping? Who were some of your influences?

Reefa
Swisha House was one of my favorites. Then my brother started doing his screw and chop series. He did about seven mixtapes. I just watched him do it and it inspired me. I started by freestyling. Everybody in the H go that way.

Jason
How would you describe your flow and style?

Reefa
I gotta specific name for it. I call it semi-automatic flow. I call it that to describe the way I spit a quick set of bars. It’s the way I let my words rip off. Ya know, I pick and choose where I wanna do it. My single Haters has got a little semi in there. You can tell it’’s a little bit of a different flow.

Jason
Yea you can definitely hear that. How did that song come about anyway? I saw the producer is from the UK.

Reefa
Man I just ran into Swift and we actually tryin to work on a couple other tracks at the moment. We just had a good vibe between us and we decided to work together. I like to start tracks off a bit different. Instead of layin down the hook first to start off, I like to just jump in there and then the beat drops. That’s the kinda beat I like, so we hopped on that track.

Jason
Who else is part of the production team?

Reefa
To be honest with you, we still workin to put all that together. Swift is helpin out with a bunch of tracks. I also got my brother Richie Rich as my main producer right now. I don’t do leasing though. I only fuck with exclusive tracks. Right now it’s all goin down at Soundclick. If you can find the right guys, that’s the way to go. We always make sure to let the producer know about the status of the song though. If it’s on any mixtape or anything, we always keep them in the loop. It might cost a little extra for an exclusive track, but it’s 100% worth it.

Jason
Cool man, so how did you get your nickname Reefa?

Reefa
That nickname came from DJ Blocc. The name kinda speaks for itself. (laughing). I stay on that Kush, no sticks and seeds.

Jason
Haha yea, no sticks and seeds, that’s pretty funny. So how do you think have progressed as a rapper over the years?

Reefa
As years go by, I only speak on what I see or what I got goin on. I don’t bite off anybody else’s swag. I don’t speak upon somebody’s else’s life. I got too many interesting things about to pop off in my life. I just stick to what I know, I don’t needa speak about someone else. Just try to keep it official. Ya know?

Jason
Yea I feel you. So I saw your also workin on puttin together your label.

Reefa
Yea, we’re in the process of getting all that together too. It’s called Talk Loud Ent. Right now it’s me and Gunna. We started together back in high school under the name Diamond District. Our third member, Dante Murray from Diamond District, is a director and does professional movies. He’s got his company Kite Flight Films. He shot our video for Haters in Cali and I don’t think any indie artists are fuckin with us when it comes to movies. We can get a lot of buzz off music videos, so we runnin with that one on that.

Jason
When is that video dropping?

Reefa
Right now it’s in its editing phase, but it’ll be out soon. We also just shot another video in Wichita Falls in Club Crush with Dru the 24 Hustla & DJ Blocc.

Jason
Aright cool man. So that brings us to the last question. What else you got comin for us and where can your fans hit you up?

Reefa
Yea, we got a new mixtape, well really an album droppin soon. It’s called Welcome to the Takeover, Otherwise the Fallout. That’s gonna be the first record dropping from Talk Loud Ent | New Wave Ent. I’m a firm believer in getting known off of your first mixtape. We know the right people, so it’s gonna make a lot of noise. Just shout out to my Talk Loud Ent | New Wave Ent artist Gunna, DJ Blocc, my boys KOB and Platinum B. And we gonna keep shoutin out RubbaShoota till he free. Also shout out to Houston, Dallas and Wichita Falls. I was born in Houston, started off in Dallas and Wichita Falls is where the goon squad came out. Then I came back to the D and the music started to pop off again, so I gotta shout out all three. They shaped me in growing up, straight up. My Twitter is @ReefaBurnOne. We gettin a Facebook up for Talk Loud Ent. Thanx for the interview man.

Jason
No doubt, be good and good luck.
